Oh, those memories. This layout was on the cover of the very first Model Railroader I ever owned.
Guess that qualifies me as a long term reader then
I remember reading about this when it was one of the new project layouts. I have not read the article yet but there was a story about the current owner and his rescue of the layout and subsequent rebuilding of it. It appears to be improved over the original, no mean feat that. It is nice to see someone enjoying this layout and model railroading. On a developmental note it is worth commenting on how a project railroad can be adapted to a new location and with some modifications become an entire new layout. I give the effort and creativity five stars not to mention the excellent execution of the concept!
Cool looking layout
Fine looking layout and it shows the time and effort that the owner put into it. I like the city and town scenes most of all and prototype running of the trains.
Wow! Amazing layout! I love the scenery! Well done!
Very nice, and I loved the guitar soundtrack accompaniment. That will be playing in my mind as I read the article yet this evening as my MR just arrived today.
A great layout. Wonderful looking scenery and buildings
Really neat layout. Being a Pennsy fan, I appreciate the overall
feel of the scenery and trains. Great structure modeling.
For me much of the appeal is derived from a pleasant balance of scenery, structure, and track; none of them dominates and each complements the other. The same kind of compositional balance is foundational to any art, and this layout clearly is an artwork. That balance is worth striving for in our own layouts.
I’ll echo Larry Stafford and his comments. Loved the detail and the weathering…first rate!
Impressive scenery and structures. Up there with the best layouts. Very high standard of modelling.
This is one of the nicer videos MR has put together. The camera work is superb and the music just right, not to mention the absolutely masterful modeling done by Jimmy and his friends. The article in MR was excellent also. Layouts like these inspire us to step out of the box and make our layouts better!
This layout was my favorite pj still looks great great photo onpage 57 of magazine
Jimmy,
This is pure inspiration and such a pleasure to see in movie format. Well done, and thanks!
Big change in the layout since we saw it at the first Craftman Show. Hope we can see it again, it looks great.

great layout
Terrific!
I had the pleasure of operating this layout for a whole day at a Greenberg Show. It was getting a little shopworn by then! I’m glad to see it has been revived and expanded. The workmanship looks perfect except for one detail. The utility boat for the lighthouse should NOT be hanging limply on it’s falls. A self respecting lighthouse crew would lift it to deck level, turn the davits inward and rest the boat on chocks like a ship’s lifeboat. Fix that detail and you have apparent perfection!
I appreciated Dave Frary’s work on the original in 1993. The articles in MR describing Dave’s work on scenery, trackwork and modular HO layout concept was ahead of it’s time. Jimmy Deignan and his friends did a splendid job of integrating a new peninsula that extends mainline operation, new industries & a roundhouse. What’s not to like? Besides I love Pennsy anyway! Thanks to Lou Sassi and MR for a fine article.
