I stayed home and tried to comfort the wives and families and then tried to help those with DSS. Those were hard time and I am greatful to all who survived one way or another and those who did not. Over 1/2 of all the suicides in my career were vets who couldn’t get the memories under control. Seems like just yesterday to some of us.

Thanks for the thought nam68-71

All told, I spent more time in SEA than the US spent winning WW2 - but a lot of my brothers in arms didn’t. I was lucky enough to come back sound in body and mind.

Of course, I knew what I was getting into when I first signed up. I come from a group of familes that has had members on both sides of every war in Europe for the last five centuries, and grew up in a house full of military mimentos.

I am so grateful to all that served to quarantee our freedom. My service was a cakewalk compared to most. Today I guess you would almost say we worked for Homeland Security- USN Anti Sub Warfare VP-92 71-77 (those Russian “terrorists” w/ nukes).
Thanks again, I wi***hat more would observe this day for what it really means, and not just a cookout holiday.

I was never in the vietnam conflict, just graduating from HS. my dad was in WW2 and I cherish ALL the vets who gave it all for this country from the start.

I was in the Air Force at Phang Rang AB and actually got to do some railfaning while I was there. There was a narrow gauge Steam railroad that ran from Phang Rang to Dealot. Granted it was from the back side door of a C123 but I could see the little trains make there way up the mountain. Other than that not much fun and I was glad to leave in one piece.
