Vintage Revell Buildings

I would like to know if anyone knows if the vintage Revell HO model railroad buildings are still being produced under another manufacturer or name. I would like to reolace the ones I have with fresh ones if possible. They were good and even if the current buildings offered from several manufacturers are excellent I would like to have some Revell buildings again.

Thank you,

Steve

Steve,IIRC Heljan or Concor was the last producers…I wish they would release them again.

Those Revell buildings were the first ‘plastic’ structures that really looked good. IIRC, Revell had Al Armitage design them. After Revell got out of the HO business, they were made by AHM, Con Cor and Revell’s European arm. IIRC, the last manufacturer was Con Cor. I have the Farmhouse Group, the Barn Group, and the two stall engine house - All classics. I was cruising around eBay the other night and was amazed that the Farmhouse Group was selling for $25-35…!

Perhaps you could “refurbish” the ones you have. Maybe some new paint or add some detail or change things around a little bit. Those Revell kits were pretty nice, if they are still in good shape you could probably make them look as good as new.

I saw a batch for sale (Bakery and farm house) at a train show in Madison WI this last weekend together with many discontinued Walthers kits. Prices varied widely.

It’s my understanding that Con-Cor owns the molds and that they will likely not ever be run again the way things stand now. The main reason, I was told, is that Revell designed them to run on modified molding machines that don’t exist anymore. The molds are also very large and in need of work.

I was told that they could be run on existing equipment, but that it would take a lot of work and the finished kits would be substantially more expensive. In other words, it could be a large investment to put into old molds.

It would be sad if they were never run again since they have some of the finest tooling ever done on plastic HO structure kits. But it’s easy to say that when it’s not your money.

Of course, things could change in the future. I’m just repeating what I heard.

I bought several never opened Superior Bakery kits on ebay. Go on ebay and search HO revell.

I first saw these on my cousin’s model railroad. As a youngster in the early 60s I was amazed by the figures, barrels, tools, etc that came with these buildings. The buildings also looked good together. In their heyday they were some of the finest plastic buildings made and many of the kits can still stand toe-to-toe with the best current moldings. I was cleaning out some old boxes and ran across one of the “Freight House and Motor Car Shed” sets as released by Con-Cor. It was time to sell it, toss it or build it. Fortunately I built the motor car shed. I added a few bits and some TLC and it came out very nicely. Unfortunately the moldings were showing their age - lots of flach and poor casting on the small parts. Revell’s die cutters certainly did a fine job on these “back in the day”. These building kits deserve to be in the model railroading hall of fame
