I will be starting the building process on my layout soon and I was wondering what material to use for a freestanding backdrop. I have heard that styrene and masonite will work very well but they are sort of expensive (for me anyway). While I was searching the forums I came across a member who said vinyl flashing would work as a backdrop material. I went to Home Depot’s website and found this stuff called DuraFlash. It is much less expensive than styrene and as an added bonus, I won’t have to try to hide seams because it comes in one big roll. Here is a picture of the product.
I plan to support the whole backdrop with 1x3s so strength probably won’t be an issue. Has anyone tried this stuff? If so how did it work? Did it take paint well? Any comments are welcome, thanks in advance.
What deprtment at Home Depot was this flashing in?
Does it hold paint well?
In the same area should be aluminum flashing, that I know you can paint. Some comes unpainted, some comes painted white already. If all Home Depots nationwide get their supply from the same place, it will be made my Amerimax. The bar code labels on their products - I wrote the program that manages those for the company (Amerimax, not Home Depot).
