Vinylbed Track Bed

I was thinking about ordering it for my N scale layout, and remembered seeing that Model Railroader did a review of it in their magazine in the past. Does anyone know what issue it was.

Also, can people who have used it comment on it?

Thanks. [:)]

Here is the web URL - I have never used it, but I did order the ‘sample’ package and it looks good - but is more expensive than cork.

Yes, thank you. I have their info. I just remembered seeing in an old issue of MR that they did a product review of the vinylbed, but cannot remember the issue it was. Can anyone else?

I am sure Model Railroader gave it a glowing review.[;)]

Even still, I would like to read it!

I have read 2 key reviews of Vinylbed on forums by actual users. I was interested in it for handlaid track, so these comments may not apply in your situation.

The 1st review said it was the best material around for hand spiking rail of the various roadbed materials that the author had tried. I was a little skeptical, but was prepared to order a trial package.

The 2nd review stopped me. It stated that the consistency of the material and hardness (key for handlaid track) varied from batch to batch because it was made from recycled plastic and/or rubber. One batch might be great for spiking into, but another may not. This may not be a showstopper (might not even affect it at all) for laying flex track, but it is for my handlaid track.

It does come in various thicknesses and widths, and appears to be a better product for most uses than the Woodland Scenics and similar.

Sorry, don’t remember seeing the MR review.

Hope this helps

I asked the company themselves, and they reminded me that it was featured in the August 1996 issue of Model Railroader in the product review sections. Thanks for your input.
