While it would be nice to see the A running again, it will take large sums of money to make it so. When the steam program was terminated, the 1218 was in the middle of a major shopping and repair project. It was never completed and enough work was done to restore the engine to a nice cosmetic appearance. Useable fixtures and appliances were sold to other steam programs, while boiler tubes (an odd size usable only on 1218) went as scrap metal. The best we will see is the occasional short movements from the VMT to the Link museum and back again.
It will be so good to see this beautiful lady back out on the mainline where she rightly belongs. Can’t wait to see her run again.
What about the 1218? I would think you would want to build a place for both so maybe she could once again be fired up
that is a fantastic idea to make it big enough to how to house both locomotives but I doubt the to the 0 W link will allow their locomotive to leave their facility ever.
What a great addition to the area this will be when it is finished. I am sure like everything else at VMT it will be first class. I got my old VHS tapes out over the weekend and watched my 611 ones, man I can’t wait to see her “out” again.
