Virtual Reality Staging

A while back I read an article or maybe it was just a sentence or two about using virtual reality to track the progress of a train moving off layout into staging. The way the described it, a train would say go into a staging track in a tunnel and stop in “reality,” but on a VR monitior, the train would continue through the country side to it’s destination and when it returned, the train would start up and emmerge from the other side of a tunnel.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone one heard about the progress of this project?

  2. Does a project like this interest you?

  3. Is there a market for VR/layout interaction?

VR sounds a little heavy, but how about one of the Train Simulators?

I’m using thier words, but train simulators would be more accurate.

that sounds pretty cool to me!

Before today I never heard of it…

Not particularly in exactly the way it’s described. What I would like, if we are talking virtual reality, is a VR throttle for my Wabash Steam engine(s) (or any other loco for that matter) that puts me, visually, in the cab on MY layout. Be it a plywood (or pink) prarie, or fully sceniced…

It wouldn’t suprise me if there were and it did happen…
