vollmer three stall roundhouse and the Atlas turntable

I would like to mate up the Vollmer three stall roundhouse and the Atlas turntable. Will it look OK or will the tracks not go straight?

The key issue is that the Atlas Turntable has fixed 15° track locations. If the Vollmer roundhouse is also built with 15° spacing, then it will work. From photos, it looks like this is the case, but someone with the actual roundhouse could confirm.

The Walthers TT does not have fixed locations so you are good to go.

Edit It seems to me I have read about quality issues with the older turntable. If it is not already assembled, you might want to search the forum and check that out.

Thank you for your replys concerning the roundhouse and turntable. Now I need to know how big are the door openings for the Vollmer three stall roundhouse?

The side-to-side clearance with the doors opened is about 13’6" HO, while the vertical clearance is 19’3" HO from the top of the rail to the bottom edge at the highest point of the arched lintels, and roughly 17’9" from the top of the rail to the lintels at the extreme width of the opening.

This Bachmann Consolidation fits through the opening easily…

…while these Mikados, with slightly extended canvas awnings over the cab windows, are a fairly tight squeeze…

…that’s partially due to the fact that I installed latching posts for the opened doors, to keep them from flapping in the breeze…

It is amazing that catalogs, reviews, etc. for turntables and roundhouses almost never have the track spacing (angle).

Of course the manufactures don’t want you to mix brands, but thats not the way a modeler thinks.

Well, I for one share your concern in this area. It really grinds my wheels they don’t print enough specifications about what they are selling.
