VulcanCCIT's layout progress as of 12-31-2006

Ok, you all kindly suggested to go ahead and show my progress thus far…good or bad. Well…here it is. I know I have a LOT more to do. I have so many areas that are still styrofoam. Lots of areas, where I still need to detail the scenery, or touch up areas that still show hydrocal or plastic cloth. I noticed in a few of these pics that one of my buildings was crooked. I have a cup of sand sitting on the layout, and other signs of work in progress. A few shots are from September of this year when I frst started it, shortly after the bench work was done and the track was tossed out on the table to get some ideas.

Out of all of these shots, im pretty happy with the lumber yard. The light colored portal I like as well but I have a lot of touch up to do. Some sections I could not get a good shot as I cant get the camera to the correct angle as this room is a bit cramped. I will probably move the workbench out of the way eventually.

The city is really quite bare and hardly touched. I am not so sure what I want to do in between the buildings. I have a section behind the first 3 buildings in between the white building that is blank. It is too small Ithink for more buildings and too large to be an alley. Suggestions?

Please be honest. I have only really been doing this since September. I had one other layout 21 years ago (almost exactly) which was just a small hydrocal mountain, some American Flyer trains and a few O buildings tossed in with sawdust for ground cover and coffee grounds for ballast.

So this is my first attempt to really go at it. I hope I measure up to your standards just a little bit. I know you all say its ok as long as I like it. Well I do like it…but I sure do admire your work as well and I see I need to learn a lot and practice.

well enough said. Here is one shot and a link below to the rest of them:

I think you are doing an excellent job. I am glad that I not the only one with a zero elevation layout keep up the good work

Thank you for looking and the compliment  What is a Zero Elevation layout?

I was expecting more comments on this post, mainly as I was looking for suggestions on how to improve, what is good, what is bad about this layout so far. I cant think that its so good that no suggestions are needed heheh. I know I probably posted it during a bunch of New Years Eve parties  One gentleman said something about a zero elevation layout. what is that? Feel free to comment and give me any suggestions and feed back…good or bad. I do appreciate it. Happy New Year to you all.

Zero elevation, not going up or down anywhere, but your last photo appears to be going up into the mountains?

Very nice so far!! Keep it up

Ken.

yes, the two sections of track that are the straightest… the one that heads into the tan portal, and the one heading in to the rust portal are both up at 4%. Near that house. I was using a wide angle lens and they have a tendancy to distort the curves. It is flat in the downtown area, and is up at 4% using the woodland scenics 4" riser kits (which worked great btw!).

I do have to say that it is at the transition from grade to flat (at the top of the grade) that I have cars uncouple sometimes. I think this is due to slight variations of couple height. LHS has a coupler gauage on order for me, as well as some spacers.

I think you are coming along very well. Your benchwork looks similar to mine. I also love the fall trees. I have one section on the laypot that is during the fall season. Keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress. Dave

VulcanCCIT,

I’d say you stored up 21 years of creativity and expressed it very well. [tup][tup][tup]

Only comment I’d make would be inappropriate since you acknowledge there’s work yet to done.
