Hello, everyone I have been looking to paint a few of my Wabash boxcar kits and the time has come. I was wondering what paint or combination of paints would be good for a Wabash boxcar. I am thinking of using the Polly Scale/ Floquil or Testors/Model Master. Also, what you personally use for steam/transition era Wabash cars.
For my own Wabash cars, they were done with Floquil paints, but rather than a single out-of-the-bottle colour, I used a mixture of several colours - I didn’t keep a record of the proportions, and the two cars shown were not painted with the same mix. I can’t say how prototypical the colour might be, but it suits my purposes. Both cars were lettered with C-D-S dry transfers.
As you can see, lighting and camera settings will cause some variations in appearance. [swg]
Alex, while I am at it may I suggest Mark Vaughn’s decals he has some excellant Wabash sets that I have used in doing my cars. Here are some painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red, and for variation sake Scalecoat makes a couple of shades.
Also note the gap between the first numbers and the last three numbers, that was a standard in painting Wabash cars.
Thank you all for your replies, I have just been away and I haven’t been able to respond. I am still looking for the color that best suits me, so I’ll keep on mixing.
