I posted this on the Trains forum, but hope that some of you modelers may have been in this for many years. For 42 years I’ve been trying to figure out how the end platforms on the wooden Wabash RR caboose shown in the Jan. 1964 Model Railroader connect to the box. The drawing shows the top of the platforms at the bottom of the end sills. It appears that the platforms are connected only by the tongue connecting the trucks at the bolster to the coupler pocket. Surely these platforms were connected to the car itself someway. Can anyone help?

It looks to me like the frame rails run the full length, coupler to coupler… You’ll note that the platform is just below the level of the door threshold, as I’m sure the interior floor is. The steps then appear to be supported by both the end rail and the caboose body (probably also framed behind)…
