When Roy Acuff left this world to a better place, Boxcar Willie said that he would not let the “Wabash Cannonball” die from the Grand Ole’ Opry. It seems as though he made that promise to Roy Acuff. As far as I know Boxcar Willie performed it at every performance at the Opry until his death.
My question is: Does anyone carry the legacy of that song at the Grand Ole Opry today? I know that traditions in country music aren’t even near what they used to be, but I figured someone would keep that song going.
