WAITIN' FOR THE TRAIN TO CLEAR THE CROSSING...

While watching a slow merchandise train crawl slowly out of town, earlier; I was counting cars [87] and observing. I was struck by the number and variety of cars that had graffiti on them, and this train judging by the number of flats loaded with all kinds of lumber had obviously come out of the Northwest. Intrerspersed by a half dozen new reefer cars, painted snow white and lettered for ARMN 110230, and with automotive style reefer units [Carrier] had not one spot of anything but authorized markings. While the boxcars and hoppers and tanks around them were covered with all sorts of art work. I was struck by the fact that the railroads to allow this to happen seemingly unhampered. They put so much effort into busting the chops of railfans who want to do no more than to just watch and take pictures. A seeming resource that is on the look out for anything that might be a problem for the observed railroad. Just a thought[banghead][%-)][2c]

Graffiti is usually done when cars are sitting alone in an industrial park…so no railroad officials or cops can see them doing it.

America sure is Great isn’t it?
Allan.

A lot of these graffiti people are truly artists, but it’s still graffiti. I once seen a TFM autorack with a nice mural painted on it, on the entire side of the car (top to bottom). Maybe they could make something of themselves if they painted on canvas and sold the paintings instead of doing it on public/private property.

I hate graffiti… cant those guys do it on PAPER???[:(!]

I think cops should crack down on guys with SPRAY CANS and NOT guys with CAMERAS…

Is that an idea or what?[;)]

By the nature of the cargo reefers probably do not stay idle in areas that are prone to graffiti, at least not for a long period of time. I did see one of the newer BNSF reefers with a small area on the side severals months ago. It probably took the artist (criminal) a few minutes to produce.

Graffiti sure seems to be on the rise . . .

Let’s go to the real source:

Are the parents of these so called “artists” teaching their kids about respect for people and property?

It was probably the parents that taught them how to paint in the first place.

Aren’t some locomotives sprayed too?

Uh, yep…

These kids need a wooden padle “teaching” and the parents are probably afraid to for fear of being turned in for child abuse. I think this is the root of a lot of societys problems today. More parents need to beat the stupid out of there kids before it’s too late.
