waiting on an hopper from E bay

Hello all. a week ago I won a BN covered hopper on E bay and I haven’t recieved it yet. I e mailed the seller and ask if he had shipped it yet. He replied today and said he had mailed it on Friday and said he was sorry for the delay. That is exactly one week after I won the hopper. I paid with Pay Pal as soon as I won it, so he has had my money for 9 days and I still do not have the hopper. My question is am I over reacting or is this the norm? Does this justify a neg. feedback? I do not want to give a neg feedback if this a common thing. Just trying to do the right thing. Mike

Grasshopper, you must learn patience. People have jobs and families. Some only get to ship once a week.

Mike,

NO it’s not the norm. Usually they ship the next day after receiving the money. But sometimes it does happen. I have bought several things and had exactly the same thing happen to me. I WILL NOT leave POSITIVE feedback for this person, but I won’t leave NEGATIVE feedback either. It can backfire on you. if you jump the gun and leave negative feedback he will most surely leave it for you even though you don’t deserve it. Now I would want the tracking number ASAP. If he hasn’t gave you an e reason or tracking number then report it to Paypal.

I don’t always receive a tracking number. If the purchaser does not pay for one, they don’t get one. A week is nothing; after 2 weeks, I would e-mail the seller. I would not report to PayPal unless 3 weeks passed and still nothing. As another poster had said, things can happen to anyone. Life goes on and for the price of a covered hopper, I wouldn’t “get my panties in a wad”!

Thanks, I thought I would til tommarrow and see if it comes in then and see what the hopper is like.
Personally I would think this does not deserve a pos, but then again I am new to E bay, and didn’t know. The other items I have won were shipped the next day after I paid (I have always paid as soon as I win) so I feel the seller should have the same respect for me. What about the neutral feedback? The seller has only 80 sells and 100% positive. I read all the feedback he got and most say prompt shipping. Mike

Mike,

This seller doen not deserve positive feedback. But he doesn’t deserve negative. Positive feedback is for when you are happy with the transaction, prompt shipping, good return emails, item as described. He provided no explaniation. He is serving you. Might seem harsh but thats how I feel.

The most important issue to consider is what type of seller listed the item. If it is a store, then I expect the item to be shipped within 72 hours. If it is an individual then I will generally give then 10-day to ensure that they have at least one weekend. With the “customer service” of the post office that opens after I am at work and closes before I leave my desk, there is generally no way that I can ship an item during the week. Most non commercial seller are the same way.

Generally I am willing to leave positve feedbakl if I recieve the item within 20-days. At twenty days, I will contact the seller if I have not recieved the item. I will again follow up at 25-days. If I have not recieved the item or a reasonable explanation as to why not, I will file with Paypal. I have completed many many transactions on e-bay and found nearly every seller to be honest and desirign to provide quality customer service. That said, things do happen.

Before you get very upset about the situation, put yourself in the seller position and be patient. If the seller is a scum bag attempting to defraud you then I will join you in your anger. I have had items that I sent by USPS delayed for no apparent reason for months. I sent three packages from Florida to Tulsa and two arrived together and the last several days later. One cannot always prediect the customer service we recived from the USPS.

Mike,

As A long time Evil bayer. I will be the first to tell Please dont post a negitive feedback. If you dont see anything for 3 weeks then post. I both sell and buy ( not so much so the last couple of years ) and things do Happen. I usualy only could ship on 1 day a week and always contacted my buyer with a ship date. He did tell you it shiped friday so depending on where he is and where you are you should see it in a couple days.

As a rule of thumb, If it is exactly as described and you receive it a little late give him a positive but rate him an A- or B. It will help your standings in the long run to if you just be a little patient and dont jump the gun.

8500HP… How long have you been ebaying? That is harsh what you stated I see your point but you should always understand that a few of us ebayers do have jobs that dont allow us to ship as soon as you pay.

Curt

keep in mind a couple things:

  1. yesterday was a mail holiday
  2. you paid with paypal… did you use a bank account transfer or a credit card?? bank account transfers take a few days to clear… just like a check…

that being said… if you used a credit card… leave neutral feedback,. or be nice and leave positive feedback… definitely not negative feedback…

Paypal transfers get paid right away. The seller gets a conformation email telling him the money was put into his Paypal account, this happens within a few minutes. He then ships it knowing he has the money. Most people just leave it in there Paypal account.

Mike,

Give us the item number

Money transferred to Paypal happens almost immediately. If the seller wants to transfer those funds to their bank account it will take several days to complete. Earlier this year the transfers were not posting to my account until the end of the next business day.

this is not necessarily true… if you write an e-check it takes time to clear… ive purchased three things last week via this method and each took 3-4 days to clear… my items were shipped at that point…

As others have said, if its just an individual seller than giving them a week to ship is not unreasonable. If I sell something on ebay and the auction closes on a Monday and I get an instant PayPal payment, it still isn’t getting shipped until Saturday. That is the soonest I can get to the post office when its open. Most people have jobs and ebay isn’t it. If someone is looking for instant gratification don’t buy it on ebay, go to your LHS.
I do agree that if it is a retailer selling on ebay then the turnaround should be quicker because that is their business but to expect the average Joe to ship an ebay win immediately upon payment is unrealistic.
If the item comes as advertised, leave the seller positive feedback. Not shipping immediately isn’t a reason to leave a neutral or negative feedback.

Bryan

Please don’t leave negative or neutral feedback for the guy when he didn’t do anything wrong. If the auction stated “ships same day” or something like that, then yeah, maybe a neutral, but the guy didn’t do anything wrong and even apologized for being slow.

I am shocked that anybody would tell you to not leave positive feedback. I’ve seen people like that on ebay…tarnishing sellers’ reputations. If you get the hopper and it’s as descriped, give him a +

If not, always resort to working it out by email etc. and if he’s helpful he’d still get a +. Hope you enjoy your hopper.

Been on ebay for years, only had to leave a neg once and that was because he stated a certain thing about the product and it wasn’t true. Some shipments have taken 3 weeks from start to finish but that is rare. Once an item took 5 weeks but the person was in the hospital but someone emailed me back when I asked what was up after about 2 weeks, they didn’t have a clue about who bought what but said he was going to be fine and he would ship as soon as he was able, I don’t care about delays as long as I as kept informed. Remember it could be the shipper too, had to complain to the postmaster about a delivery driver once, wouldn’t leave the standard hey we tryed to deliver note and once the time they said they tried to deliver was a lie because we were sitting outside.

I agree with rrebell, be patient, you bought the item on ebay, I’ve had items take up to 3 weeks to receive. I buy on average 120 items per year and I am surprized when I get an item within a few days. If the hopper arrives as described leave positive feedback, if you continue to shop on ebay and remain impatient, you’ll become one frustrated shopper.

I agree with Accord. Learn to be patient. You never know the circumstances that the seller is dealing with. 3 weeks is about right. I’d email the seller before jumping the gun and giving them a negative feedback. Remember, it works both ways. Negative feedback from sellers and they may be reluctant to deal with you. He DID offer an apology for the delay, which is more than you get from a lot of sellers in person.

Thans for all the replies. I did not mean to sound impatiant just wondering about the normal thing.
I did recieve the hoppar in the mail this morning, and it was well packaged, nothing broke or missing. The hopper was as the seller described it to be so he hot a Thank You and a pos. feedback.
I also got in my Kaydee couplers in this morning, now for the task of installing all those tiny parts.
Thanks again for the help, wanted to do the right thing. Mike
