Hey everyone. Yesterday, I saw the Outbound State House, Amtrak Train #305. Here he is flying around the corner at an estimated 80 MPH. Despite continuous honks, some moron still decided to drive right around the gates when they were down and dinging. Here is a photo of the Amtrak flying around the corner at Lemont Station. The lead unit is 144. Notice that it’s missing its logo: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=110815
Nice picture but is that the same radar gun you used to measure that parked BNSF intermodal doing 70 mph? To me it just doesn’t look like the kind of area that Amtrak comes racing through 80 mph. It is awefully close to the building on the left.
Thanks. He might have been doing about 65 past the building, but he throttled up a lot and picked up to about 75 or 80. I wasn’t using a radar gun. I just estimated both. Now, I know it’s weird that the BNSF doesn’t have any lights on. He should have had them on. But I’ve seen a lot of trains do that recently. The BNSF has really high speed limits through Channahon. Track Speed is 70 MPH on the Transcon South of Joliet.
What I find more interesting than the missing “three sheets to the wind” is TWO P42’s on the point. On a four or five car train? That leaves a nice HP to weight ratio.
He was leading 4 cars. Normally, 305 only has one engine. But I’ve seen it with two sometimes. I even once saw a P42 leading, 4 cars, and a P42 pushing at the back. [:)]
