Walkaround control and DC question

I building a new layout and would like to use DC power with a Walkaround handheld control unit. Any suggestions on models or specific types of controlers or power sources to use or avoid would be helpful. I looked at DCC and decided against it due to cost, not necessarily initial cost but the cost of adding decoders to each locomotive.

Happy Thanksgiving

The club I used to belong to had an MRC ControlMaster 20 and a CMRI Hogger. Both worked well.

But til you price all the block toggles and decent memory walkarounds, DCC will look cheap. Especially if you count your time as some cost as well.
