Wall bracket width

Could you go as wide as 30" around the wall. ?

I guess you mean layout width? Mines 28.5" max from the wall, 30 is about the average reach a person has.

Ken.

Go with what YOU can comfortably reach…even if standing on a stool.
I have a corner that is a bit of a stretch, but can be reached when on a, short, three step, folding step ladder. I hope I don’t have to spend a lot of time “fixing” at that corner, but at least I can reach it if need be.

Ken,
I was trying to figure if a shelf type layout could be supported as wide as 30’" with a “standard and bracket” setup.

I think with styrofoam the weight at that width could reasonably be supported.

At Lowes they sell a really big wall bracket. It’s about 24 inches on a side and made of about 3/16 steel. I have 2 of them holding up a 36 by 54 inch work bench thats made from 1 inch particle board covered with flormica and weighs about 50 pounds. On it I repair computers, so it has a 17 inch monitor on it along with parts and manuals at all times. I have caught my helper setting on it, he weighs about 190 pounds. It’s been there 3+ years, so yes. Fred

I built a 32" wide section at a corner, supported by 10x12 shelf brackets. The layout was 1/4" plywood and 2" foam. The brackets held the layout just fine, but there was some sagging, mostly caused by the natural warp of the piece of foam I used. The sag wasn’t severe enough to hinder good train operations.
