Wallyworld For Sale construction advice needed

There have been several threads and replies about using “For Sale” signs from the local mega-mart as a construction medium. My only question: what kind of adhesive?

I’m guessing that it is not Styrene. Do you use a CA? I’ve used Elmer’s Craft Bond on several projects with good results; would that work?

At the moment I just want to use it as a base for some styrene buildings, so I need to adhere the two types of materials, with no weight or stress involved. Of course, I then need to fasten it to the plywood. How can such simple things become so ???[banghead]

Thanks in advance.

Al, I’ve used CA and Quick Grip with great results. The signs I’ve used were styrene.Any adhesive that works on styrene will do.

Terry

Thanks, Terry. I didn’t realize that they were actually styrene. That simplifies everything.

For plastic to plastic, I use the Testors glue in the tube. For sign to wood, I used Tacky Glue.

There’s no need to use that awful tube cement, it’ll melt the thin styrene, (I stopped using that stuff in high school), just use any of the liquid plastic cements.

Use the glue that works with whatever material the ‘sign’ is printed on.

If you really need large quanities of sheet plastic, I would suggest
locating a plastics wholesaler or sign shop in your area. You can purchase
or order any type of sheet plastic (styrene, PVC, ABS, plexi, Lexan) in
4’x8’ sheets at any common thickness (.010" to 2"). You’ll also be paying
significantly less per square foot than by purchasing individual signs at the
big box, plus they’ll usually cut or rip sheets into smaller sizes to transport
if necessary.
