I have fitted lighting units into the Super Chief coaches produce by Walthers. However they do not seem to make a good connection to the 2 tabs in the coach. I have read the instructions many times over to make sure I am not missing anything. I have tried solderring the tabs to the lighting unit. Put polystyrene blocks underneath the lighting unit to keep it tight to the tabs. This works until you repack in box and get out again as the blocks move. Have I done something stupid or have any of you had problems with this. Hope you kind folks can help a poor limey in need
I don’t have any of the Walthers passenger cars or lighting kits, but did notice in their 2006 HO catalog that the recommended kit for the Super Chief is 933-1049 except for the Pleasure Dome, which uses a 933-1083.
A member of our local HO scale club has a complete Walthers Union Pacific passenger car set with lighting kits and has had nothing but trouble with them. Some of the lighting kits had to be cut off on the ends, and with some the roof will not go back down all the way. I don’t recall his having the same problems you are encountering, though.
Our club layout has minimum 26 inch radius curves and he can’t run his Walthers cars around it without derailing, even after modifying the coupler pockets, changing to longer shanks, and cutting away some of the underframe.
I have nothing but trouble with the Walther’s light kits. The problems are the same as yours, I push the tabs down in the car. It helps some, but still doesn’t work right. I gave up on them.

Thank you for your reply, I have had a little trouble with a roof not clicking back into place but not with the couplers
