Walther Trainline GP9M Wheel replacement

I recently dug up my old GP9M, a Walthers Trainline engine. It came with my first trainset, so I’d bet it’s about 10-12 years old. It has brass wheels and gives a very jerky performance even when the wheels are spot less. I thought maybe it would help to replace the wheels with nickel silver ones. Problem is that I’m not sure where to get wheels that have a plastic gear in the middle. I haven’t had the chance to get to the LHS yet though, but from a search of the Walthers website I didn’t find any thing. So I was thinking that probably calling the Walthers customer service and asking them about them would be the best thing, but I first wanted to ask if any of this forum’s members might know something I don’t. Any info would be appreciated on the subject, as this was my first locomotive and has some sentimental value, and I’d like to get it back into operation on my layout.

Thanks,
Noah

In the meantime try spiffing up the armature. Might be a build up of carbon from the brushes or you could use new brushes.

Thanks alot for the tip. Just had the chance to try that, cleaned it a little, and it works even better now. Still not optimum, but much better. Thanks again,

Noah

Hi Noah- check the number of teeth on the gear. My LL and Athearn geared wheels interchange. No problem with my Walthers so far, so I haven’t looked.
Good luck. Flip.
