Has anyone assembled any of the four bay hoppers? Any trick to making sure the bolster is on level to keep the trucks level? I’ve got a bunch to put together and would appreciate any advice.

Are you talking about the quad hoppers?
I have ten of them. They seem to run well. I didn’t really make an effort to “leveling” the bolsters, but I don’t seem to have any problems.
The biggest thing you can do for these cars is use the weights provided instead of using the plastic center sill. Paint the weights the same color as the car, and no one will ever know the difference. Install metal wheelsets after reaming the sideframes with a micro-mark bearing tool, and they will run well. Extra weight from a load will also help.

I have built 176 of them…For flawless tracking I recommend the following procedure:
Use the metal weights for the cars. They need the extra weight. Take the bolster caps (Part number 5 on the instruction sheet) and file the end with the SMALL ‘overhang’ flush with the side “wings”. You could also file this area until it drops in place with the weight installed, it is up to your preferences. I file them flush. This will ensure that the trucks sit level on the bolsters once the cement is dry. I would also recommend Intermountain wheelsets for the cars. You’ll enjoy running them empty or loaded with those wheels!! Have fun.
