Walthers 120' Turntable

Does anyone have experience with the Walthers N scale 120’ turntable? I am planning a new layout and I would like to have a small, modern engine terminal with a turntable. I would use the Walthers turntable drive to power it. The reason I want this kit is mostly for the low price. I have zero experience with any turntables so I have a few questions. How do I get the rails to line up perfectly? Do I just eyeball it and hope everything works? Is 1 rpm a good speed for a turntable? How do I wire it? What is indexing? (Wow, I have a lot more questions than I thought! [:D])

Thanks for any help.

With the KIT turntables, you eye-ball it (or spend ALOT of money adding an indexing system). When you build the kit, the instructions will tell you to bevel the last 1/4" of the inside edge of the bridge rails to help keep things “on track”. The instructions will also tell you how to wire it. Indexing is an electronic sensing system that lines the turntable up to exactly the same position every time.

Thanks for the reply.
Could I use the DC terminals on a cheap bachmann power pack to control the turntable motor? Is it difficult to “eye-ball” it because there is no way I’m dropping $200+ for an indexing system.

Thanks

I’ve never had a problem eye-balling my HO scale turntable, but due to the size, an N-scale turntable may be a challenge. And yes, you can use a cheap DC pack power the turntable motor. I myself use an old Bachmann pack from a starter set.
