Walthers' 2013 Passenger Train?

There was a lot of talk that the Metroliner would be the 2013 train from Walthers so I was surprised to see the picture of the new catalog on page 13 of the July sales flier. I wouldn’t guess what the name of the train is, but that sure looks like a Chessie E unit leading the way. It would certainly be different.

Well, sort of, I guess. It’s Pere Marquette. I hear the car behind it is a GN baggage-RPO painted for the same railroad.

I suspect, though I certainly don’t know, that that photo doesn’t indicate a “real” train, the way that all the previous ones have been.

I’d started writing up a long piece on this, largely echoing what I’ve posted on the Passenger Cars Yahoo!Group and in private messages with a few others, but I doubt that anyone would bother reading anything that long. Especially since I can only offer speculation, like anyone else, at this point.

For now I’ll just sum up by saying that I’m going to manage my expectations and just hope for the bridge (the iconic-to-PM/C&O-fans Thornapple River bridge from east of Grand Rapids, Michigan) and a few new paint jobs on the E7s.

But I’d be delighted to be proven wrong.

At least two full train sets worth of delighted.
