Walthers arched road bridge

Question for those who have this bridge;

Could I fit two closely placed tracks under it? what’s the vertical clearances of the bridge?

Thanks

From the Walthers web page:
Arched Road Bridge - 7-3/4 x 10-3/8 x 3-7/8", Opening: 4-5/8"
Walthers Part # 933-3196, p. 466 Walthers 2008 HO Scale Reference

The vertical clearance is 3-7/8" at the center of the arch. Of course, this is assuming you are talking about HO Scale. I’m not sure you could get 2 tracks under the bridge with enough vertical clearance for the rolling stock.

My impression is that the 3-7/8" height is measured from the top rail of the bridge. The top of the arch looks to be more 1" below that. Looks to me like you could get only 1 track under it with sufficient clearance. In the right circumstances, you could use a gauntlet track, converging the double track down to a single track with four rails beneath the bridge.

I suggest you send an email to the friendly Walthers consumer service department and ask for the interior dimensions of the arch.

I don’t have that bridge, but from the definition and photo in the Walters HO scale catalog the only way you’d have enough clearance for a double track under this bridge would be to raise it up by extending the side walls. It’s made for a roadway underneath, not railroad tracks.

Would it be possible to print off a picture of the bridge and adjust the printout to scale?

How about scratchbuilding a center section that could be added to the bridge to make it wider?

You COULD build up the landscape around the bridge and raise it however high you want… It’s a highway afterall, so the grade leading to the bridge isn’t really an issue, is it?
