Walthers ATSF H-10-44

Need an opinion from an expert. I just received the Walthers Santa Fe H-10-44. The Zebra stripes appear to be white. Is this correct? I always thought they were silver. Any comments, please?

Thanks.

On all the pictures of models wearing ATSF zebra stripes, the stripes were white.

A couple of the prototype diesels did end up with white stripes (I don’t recall the specifics as I don’t have resources in hand). Other than that the bulk of the locomotives definately had silver stripes. As crazy as this sounds, the Santa Fe zebra is one of my favorite schemes.

It’s a good question.

The majority of zebras used aluminum paint, but a few had white stripes. So white could be correct for your model. Have a road number?

I believe Microscale offers zebra decal sets for both silver and white.

BTW, is your new loco the new sound equipped H10-44 from Walthers?

I’m looking into getting this loco to finally have a factory sound equipped zebra stripe switcher. Surprisingly this would be the first one in HO. Looking for reviews of this loco…but I didn’t think it was even out yet.

I’m sorry, aluminum paint. Dang know-it-alls!!![;)]

Whethere white or silver for Santa Fe’s Zebra-stripe scheme (I thought the stripes were white), Southern Pacific’s Tiger-stripe scheme [tup] (black with orange stripes) for its switchers is more attractive. Besides, tigers are higher on the food chain than zebras. [dinner] [:-^]

Them’s fightin’ words!!! [:D]

According to the “ATSF All-Time Diesel Roster” (http://rosters.gcrossett.com/atsf/all_time.htm), the Santa Fe H12-44s had a unique paint scheme where the silver stripes had been replaced by white stripes. The H10-44s had been delivered in a black scheme with silver trim (without stripes). Thus, I think it is possible that they were later re-painted in the same scheme as the H12-44s.

Just my 2 cents… (and I am waiting for my H10-44)

Thanks to all!

It’s a nice model but I just wanted to be sure the white stripes are correct and it appears that they are. Mine is DC only and the road number is 501. Yes, it’s the new P2K. New tooling, really nice job.
