While surfing e-bay once again.I found a strange looking HO scale freight car.
A walthers beer can car, from what looks to be their {tongue in cheek line}.
About six months ago,I found another car just like this one. I thought at first it was someones poor atempt , to make a just for laughs car. These cars are real and collectors flock after them. Another car I’ve seen on E-bay,that I thought was odd,was the walthers {impact test car} also tongue in cheek line. That car went for $86.00 on the bay.
What other cars did walthers make in their {tongue in cheek} line ?
P.S
I have a pal that sells model trains out of his house, that has the impact test car for sale.
huh??? Thats an interesting fake prototype haha, i did see that impact test car, wow was that crazy. I am curious too what is this tounge and cheek line???
They actually re-released the Oscar and Piker (plastic RTR of course) a few years ago… The original ones were wood kits of small passenger cars. Just think of cutting about a 2 inch section off of a 1920s pullman (HO scale) and finishing the end of it… I remember seeing the TinC cars in the mid 1980s catalog (can’t remember which one now)… I always wanted the JailBox (a repainted RailBox with a jail gate in place of one of the doors, complete with prisoner) but wouldn’t be willing to pay the price for it now…
The Oscar and Piker did indeed come back as RTR - I have a pair in Amtrak colours. They’re usually to be found parked in a siding or on the end of a passenger train. I just wish I could get hold of some more of the paper diaphragms they came with - they work very well and I have a few other cars that could use them, and I suspect they could be modified easily enough to fit carbody diesel locos too.
Thanks 06archerd… If anyone reading this, intends a bid, please email me… It isn’t worth more than about the opening price to me and I don’t want to drive it up for someone else…
Railroading_Brit, Mine are Pullmans… Haven’t installed the diaphrams yet but it’s good to know that they do work…
