Walthers Caboose - Railing Question

Hi!

I picked up a couple C&NW Walthers HO Caboose “kits”, and my question concerns kit #932-7506 ( 30 ft. wood caboose - 3 window offset). I put “kits” in quotes because one needs to add the railings and such to complete this model.

My question concerns the wire ladder handrails that fit over the ladder on each end of the roof. There are 4 of them (2 to a side), and one part of the “A” shaped wire fits in a hole in the roof, but it is very unclear where the other half sits (on top of the roof, under the end of the roof, or ???)

I’ve looked a a photo of the prototype and it appears the one end attaches to the ladder, but this model has no provision for that. The pieces somehow need to be attached, as they are an important part of the ladder/railing structure.

Anyone have any experience with this???

Thank you!

I have one similar, and if I remember correctly, there are a couple of tiny holes under the lip of the roof that they go into. The way the wire is bent should give you a clue where it hooks into.

Gandydancer,

Thanks for the help. The top of the ladder goes into the two holes that I noticed - BUT - as you pointed out, there are two TINY holes above (#80). I confess I could only see them with the magnifier.

I did have to open them up, and got the wires in place. A bit of AC cement, a touch of red paint, and a brush of dull cote will finish it off.

That being said, this really should have been a plastic part - an extension of the ladder itself. Frankly, I was tempted to leave them off.

Thanks again !
