I have purchased the Cornerstsone United Petroleum Refinery HO scale kit and am presently on step 4. Step 4 begins with; Install the platforms completed in step 1…Note platform #72 must be installed first etc.
My question, for anyone that has accomplished building this kit, is how does one know the position of each platform during installation so that the aligment will be right for future ladders?? How will I know that I am positioning the platforms corrrectly so that the ladders and ladder saftey cages will be in alignment?
Thanks, in advance, for your input. I have done well up to this point but do not want to go further until I hear from someone who has built this kit and was successful.

It’s kind of misleading #72 only has to be on before #76 and #78 start with #56 #50 and #62 they can only go on one way then I used the ladders as kind of a guide to line up the rest of the platforms The backs of #52 and #60 should line up with #56 nice kit once its done
Thanks for your response! I will start with 56, 50 and 62 then use ladders going up to align and see if this works. I did understand that 72 needed to be put on before 76 and 78 and thats where I attempted to start. I will start below and work my way up using ladders to align.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have just completed this kit.
When completed, this kit does compliment the United Petroleum Storage Facility kit by Walthers.
I would encourage any modeler, before building, become very familiar with the parts, sub-assemblies and how they related to each other. Before gluing anything, look ahead to the next few steps and then how it connects to the next sub-assembly. Go on line and search “How to build this kit” and watch each video and all segments. Also ask your questions on-line with Model Railroader magazine forum, which was very helpful to me. Then begin to assemble slowly. Do not trust the directions. Once you are confident, then continue, but not before then. This kit is a challenge for sure.
For such a small footprint, it is sure packed with interesting visual items and certainly makes functional sense on the layout. Good Luck!
John Good to know you finished the kit I did take a look at the on line videos and noticed the seams showing on the tall pipes I filled mine in and sanded smooth don’t like to see those seams And I got the walthers 933-2980 kit to go with mine (its now discontinued) so either the 933-3167 or 3168 would be good I might add one of those Oh and for instructions I just finished a FSM # 145 coaling tower Best inst I have seen two sheets 18 x 22 both sides with picts
Thanks Mike for your help!! I also saw the seams and thought I should get rid of them but some of them are guidelines to positioning the platforms, ladders and catwalks. I used squadron products white putty to fill the seams. What did you use to fill the seams on the tall pipes?? I would have displayed a picture but I have yet to figure out how to post a picture. I could send you a picture if I had your email. Thanks again.
