I am looking to change the markings on an Illinois Central coil car by Walthers, number 932-3842, and was wondering what type of font the IC and numbers where in and if anybody manufactures decals for them? Thanks for the help.
The font on the Walthers car looks like Helvetica or Futura to me. A quick look at Microscale showed nothing close in their alphabet sets. Same for Champion. I looked here:
He’s got decals for various IC and ICG decals, including the coil car similar to the Walthers car. From the site photos, it looks like USUALLY the reporting marks for these cars were “kinda” condensed Helvetica–as supplied in Kohlberg’s set. One photo looks to have non-condensed Helvetica as the Walthers model does. But since Kohlberg’s font looks more typical, I’d go with his set.
Mr. Kohlberg is a good guy and does great decal work. You should check his site out.

So, WC3026,
What do ya think of my suggestion? Are you going with that or a different route?

Thanks for the tip of Mr Kohlberg’s website. From what I saw he had decals for ICG and the hoods of the coil cars I am looking for, but not the actual IC cars reporter marking numbers. As it says on his website keep checking the site for more updates and releases, which is waht I will do. Thanks again for the help.
