Terry,
Walthers queries generally take (1) business day to be responded to. At least that’s what I remember the acknowledgment e-mail saying. You should probably hear something today.
Tom
Thanks Tom
The Atlas Parts guy responded yesterday cause I forgot to specify HO gauge
So Monday must be a busy day for Walthers
I’m looking for an RS 3 Shell in Chesapeake and Ohio Paint scheme to convert my old N&W one to C&O
C&O had two RS-1s and they usually stayed in the same area together.
The Atlas C&O RS-1 is hard to find in either HO or N. I truly doubt Atlas will have the shells. I been looking for 5115 for several years to go with my 5114.
Maybe you could swap your N&W shell for a C&O shell or maybe engine for engine? Check the classified ads in MR as well.
The N&W loco is an RS 3 so not sure i will find a shell
But worth a shot
I just bought an RS11 on Ebay and i think the C&O only had a few for just a couple of years
Terry,Suffice it to say I hope you like your RS-11.
C&O had the RSD-7 (6800-6811) and the RSD-12 ( 6700-6709) these are 6 axle units. The RSD-7s worked out of the Peach Creek yard near Logan WVa…
C&O also had the six axle RSD-5s (5570-5595).
C&Os RS-2(5500/5501) and RS-3s(5600-5601) didn’t last long.
I use Walthers when they have better sales than I get from my LHS. The search engine is great. There is a button to click saying you only want to view stock items. There also is another one that allows for what is on sale that day.
Customer service replies have always been received the next business day.
If the price is right for you, I highly recommend them.
TomO
I was told that they had a couple of 11s that worked the New River Sub
But not sure They guy said the were short lived shop queens
I had trouble with their search engine not finding a RS3 atlas shell in C&O
I am sure nobody was there Sunday to get your email. When Monday rolled around your email was part of what was I am sure a large number, not to mentioned inquiries from the prior week that had not yet been attended to. Walthers is a big place with lots of employees but they also have a huge customer base.
As to the searches, on the Advanced Search you are given these choices:
show only in stock items
show only Advanced Reservation Items
show all items, regardless of availability
show only products that are on sale today
include discontinued out of stock products
So you control what your search comes up with. If you do not want to see out of stock or discontinued items, you can choose that.

I’ve found Walthers customer service to be pretty good, but they can take a few days to get back to you. I recently inquired about a replacement motor for one of my subway cars. It’s not a listed item, but they did have them and they gave me the part number. Another time, I managed to lose the instruction sheet to a kit. I e-mailed them about that, and before the day was over I had a PDF copy of the instruction in my in-box.
Only use the Advanced Search. The other one is useless, but Advanced Search works great for me.
And you can see the manufacturers and suppliers they stock, in alphabetical order, and see all they offer from that particular manufacturer.
I have my best luck calling them. That way they confirm if it’s in stock, if it’s made, or maybe another source.
Mike.
I have too just recently started buying again from Walthers. Never had any issues with customer service or order errors in past. Once you get used to their advanced search, its pretty easy.
Don’t know what others recent experiences are, but with increased shipping costs and Ebay fees all of a sudden Walthers prices & shipping costs are competitive again (I’m a member of their Yardmasters program). Walthers has supported this hobby for a long long time and to get my money, they don’t have to be the lowest price, just in the ball park.

There was very little difference between a rs2 and rs3. It would be an easy kitbash from a rs2 which was very n ç&o paint.
If you are willing to strip, paint and decal they are available on Fleabay
I’ve never had any problems with Walthers. It has been my experience that they have above average customer communication along with reasonably prompt shipping.

I have always had good service from Walthers. Unfortunately I haven’t given them much business lately because the Canadian dollar is so low and Walthers shipping to Canada is no bargain.

The start of day 3
So far only the sound of Crickets [*-)]
I’m retired and on limited income, plus the nearest train hobby shop is a 3 hour round trip drive. I do 99% of my purchasing on line and I shop for the lowest prices. Anyway, Walthers has always given me excellent service. My only complaint is that they don’t post how many of an item is in stock.
I think you should pick up the phone. I would have on day 1, but that’s just me, because that’s the way I deal with Walther’s, and any other supplier I’m looking to buy from.
I still use the phone.
Mike.
