Walthers EMD 567 diesel model - leftover parts?

I recently picked up a Walthers HO scale EMD model 567 diesel motor - this is an engine that would go into a diesel locomotive. It’s intended as a flat car load or scenery around a diesel shop. There were several parts on the sprue that were leftover - no indication on the assembly drwing where they should go, or what they could be used for. I was hoping someone on this list might have an idea or suggestion.

Here’s a photo showing the completed model with the leftover parts: a corrugated panel, two pieces of plastic angle, and the strangest - a long rounded bottom thingie. Whatzit?

As you can see, these parts are not shown in the drawing, nor is there any mention in the text, which is all about the prototype motor.

Any ideas?

Bob,

I suspect that Walthers (or their Chinese subcontractor) probably used a re-tooled mould leftover from a previous kit. I’ve found undocumented parts on a number of kits that I’ve built.

I did a google search for a tech drawing of the 567B, but this was the closest thing I could find - a company that rebuilds diesels. They have a few photos of built-up and semi-built engines, none of them have that long ‘pan’ thing under them though…

Hope this helps…

This is the same sprue that Walthers includes in their “back shop” kit. The left over parts are for the roll up door.
By the way good job!

Good job!

I plan on getting at least two of these kits.

I’m going to do a “Cutaway Locomotive” for a yard scene.

(Yep, it’s all Fundy Northern’s fault for doing that really nice cutaway F unit!)

I always knew that the leftover parts were from some other kit, not I know which one, thanks!
I’ve been unsing the corrugated piece to form tin foil over to make corrugated roofing material.

Hey! Thanks for the info, makes sense to me now. Too bad they wouldn’t have placed a note on the instruction sheet saying there were some extra parts. I’ve seen such notes in plastic aircraft model kits. But I suppose it’s typical of Walthers kits, doing things only halfway.

And since we are on the topic, what is the appropriate color(s) for an EMD 567? I have this kit that I want to put in a shop diorama, but, don’t have a good color reference.

You could put it next to a Locomotive shop. Put the corruragated peice of it. Put the long thing thing under it. and use the extra “sticks”(they look like I beams) to hold up the corruragted peice and there ya go. A make shift Engine Shop generator.

Hey, that’s pretty cool! I had no idea Walthers even made such a product! That would be something neat to have. I’ll have to check into getting one myself. [:D]
