Walthers executive and former Kalmbach vice president Michael Stephens dies
Mike was a great guy, I met him at the Del Mar Train show when he was with Athearn, we were talking Trains when he asked about my Ferrari F1 shirt, when I told him I worked for Ferrari his eyes lit up…he said it was nice to talk about Cars for a bit to break up all the Train talk and expessed an interest in getting an older Ferrari convertible, well after moving to the midwest again the Ferrari was not a practical dream anymore but we did stay in touch and exchanged funny emails, I called his office last week on the day he passed to let him know I may be in Elkhart lake for the Ferrari National meet and to invite He and his Wife to see the show, but was not told of his passing, over the weekend at the Prototype Modelers meet in San Bernadino I was chatting with Mike from Athearn and asked about Mike Stephans and he told me the news, i was shocked and a bit heartbroken to lose another friend
It’s sad to loose people in the hobby who have improved it so much, sadder still when they are so young and should have had many more years among us.
