Thanks!

I’m checking with Walthers NOW.

Can Motor made in China, dual fly wheels…

Locomotive 3.

Could be a Canon knock off. Being a modern can motor, It’s probably a smooth runner.

Thanks!

These are good, solid locos. Drivetrain is much the same quality as Proto 1k/2k - hefty diecast frame, can motor, flywheels. I have one and it’s a sturdy, reliable performer. Must hunt down another at some point as it looks a bit “dwarfed” running alone on a set of Superliners!

I got two of the first 1998 run. No complaints.

I have a bunch of them, as they are cheap and perform nicely. They are also
easy to lube and clean.
These F40s aren’t perfect, but they’re among the best values in model RR.

Walthers really ought to think about expanding the Trainline locomotive line.

I don’t have any Walthers F40s, having obtained a pair of Bachmann Spectrum units a couple of years ago at a reasonable price. At the time, I was put off by the Walthers paint finish, but I notice that this is improving on more recent units. In particular, unit numbers now appear in number boxes, which were missing before, and the general sharpness has improved.

I have a “Pepsi Can” P32-BWH which lacks painted detail. The new silver “Phase IV” unit is better and has generally sharper paint -pity I don’t like the scheme at all.

But Walthers are improving the Trainline units. They aren’t up to Kato standards, but the don’t cost as much either.
