Walthers five-unit articulated well cars

Hi all

I ordered some of these in February and I still don’t have any idea if I well ever get my order. Does anyone know what the word is on Walthers N scale 5 unit articulated well cars? Are they even being manufactured anymore? I’ve e-mailed Walthers several times and each time they say “Our website currently shows these items have an unknown date of arrival to our distribution center.” Is there a way that I can find out what the manufacturer (Walthers) is doing? Thanks in advance.

whats the code and i can see what i can do for you

That’s why I don’t bother to use Walthers. I’ve seen this happen for 30 years.

Thanks everyone for your help. I just recieved a message from Walthers saying, “We have checked on these items for you. The prediction at this point is about 4 months to get here.” I guess it’s better than nothing.

August 31 is the transit date to arrive at Walthers!!!

Straight from someone with personal experience…I own one! I bought it at a hobby store in New York City some years back…remember those? Anyway I digress. If it is similar to mine,it is all metal construction and modeled for the smaller containers. I don’t know if its the same one or if that one is even still being made. I am an intermodal fan and like to model a long train. This model fit right in and gave my intermodal train a good start. After a few years I have noticed it starts to drag and have been considering reolacing the wheelsets in some way. Sure a larger radius curve than I have would help, but I initially didn’t have such a problem. Anyway just a heads up…it’s a good model and should make your RR more interesting.

On a similar note… I also bought more recently the KATO 3-unit well car. Great looking model but…I have foung it derails. Sometimes yes sometimes no. I have checked all the gauges and they check out. Anyone else heard or noticed anything with these? I mentioned it to people at a hobby store once and they seemed amused.

Good news! Thanks to a very generous member of this forum I’m now the proud owner of 2 articulated sets and 8 stand alone cars. Here’s some pics

Overall I’m very happy with the cars. They are made of heavy die cast metal so they track well even without containers. As mentioned before the trucks are a little warped on some cars causing the wheel sets to wobble a little (some even fell out of the trucks) That’s an easy fix though. My only problem is that my only loco (a Kato SD70) will only pull about 9 cars of the cars (through a 15” radius S curve so I can’t complain too much). Oh well, I was planning on double heading anyway.
