I noticed that Walther’s HO 73’ Centerbeam Flat Car has 3 springs in the axles. Anyway what type of trucks does this type of freight car use? I want to replace all my freight rolling stock with Kadee trucks, and I need to get the right type of truck for the right type of freight car.
I don’t know the specifics as it will differ depending on if the trucks are 70-ton or 100-ton. Guessing the 100-ton would be a 5 or 6 spring grouping. Try Googling center beam flat car images and look at whats on the real cars.
I found several pages of photos but all were too dark to see the detail of the springs. But the car data indicated they were 100-ton cars so a modern roller bearing truck showing 3 outer springs and having 36-inch wheels would work.
My opinion is most trucks are a generic representation with no differentiation of capacity outside of 33-inch wheels or 36-inch wheels - and that’s a maybe. Newer firms such as Exactrail are raising the bar and they do model specific trucks. My LHS carries them.
