Walthers heavyweights

I have often read a lot about how poor the walthers heavyweights are. They look good everyone agrees but they perform bad. But I will have to say that since I put Kadee’s on them and run them on a track that have been removed of it’s kinks they are my absolutely best passenger cars. They are running so smoothly that I just can’t believe it. So I would just like to post this and give some positive info on these beautiful passenger cars.

They are a lot less sensitive then my CZ cars but they are coming around since I cut down a little of the little hook under the coupler and most importantly, fixed my track.

I think the main problem has been you need really large radius turns to run them properly. What size turns are you having your good luck with?

Main issue…they advertize that it will go around 24" radius. They do, but barely…they need much broader curves to operate properly.

I guess I’m putting off getting those nice looking UP overland cars… They’d die on 22"s wouldn’t they… Maybe the streamliners will work…

Well I guess that is a part of it. Before I built my layout I made sure that I could handle large equipment like this, my layout is designed for passenger trains and large locos. So I use nothing less then 36" radii on my layout.
