3.7 oz for a 40’ freight car is quite close to the NMRA specs. These are are about 5.75" long over the car body. The NMRA spec states:
1 oz, plus .5 oz for each inch of length(2.875 oz) - this comes up to 3.875 oz. My new Walthers PS-1’s weigh in at 3.67 oz, and my Improved 1937 AAR cars weigh in a 3.66 oz. They have metal wheels, metal couplers(Proto MAX), and are sorta close on weight - I’ll give them a 2 out of 3. BTW, Accurail car kits are about the same weight, but the 40’ cars weigh in at 4 oz after I add metal I-M wheels and metal Kadee ‘Whisker’ couplers. 20 years ago, a 40’ model usually weighed in at something like 2.5 oz…So progress is being made. It’s good to see the MR reviews looking for thins like metal wheels, couplers and correct weight.
My personal opinion is that these cars are not worth money that approaches the cost of a Kadee car. these are essentially “blue-box” quality with better wheels, an improved running board and some nicer “throw away” couplers. How can that price be justified???
