Walthers HO scale USRA 0-8-0 with a SoundTraxx DCC decoder

I am beginner (60 ears old) model railroader…Just bought the Polar Express, and am willing to spend more dollars to expand my hobbie…This article was over my head. Is there a more layman write up on this engine? George Amer

When, if ever…, is Walthers going to do the 0-8-0 for the Pocahontas Roads; N&W,VGN and C&O. They keep telling us they lasted until 1960 but that was on the N&W, a road name they have never produced. Even Model Railroader had to kitbash a VGN 0-8-0. To make matters worse they already have some of the parts such as the tender bottom. N&W Class S1a used the USRA tenders which Wathers already has already made, (as a starting point for the tenders on the Class S1As), on one of the runs of the Y3? Still waiting for N&W 0-8-0s after all these years…

Very nice! But way out of my price range especially for a switcher.lol

Dose the tender wheels have electrical pickup?

Is it possible to obtain this switcher with Pennsylvania instead of New York Central?

I have used the 0-8-0 that Walthers produced in 2000 at operating sessions. They were nice locomotives, but the new 0-8-0 is much better. The tender has wipers and traction tires on one of the drivers. I have pulled 20 loaded coal cars without any problems.
The Tsunami sound decoder is great. I programed this engine with JMRI Decoder Pro and a NCE PowerCab . The results were outstanding.
I model the N&W in HO scale. With a few changes and some decals, this engine makes a good stand-in.
