Walthers HO Union Pacific Passenger Color Schemes

Hi all,

I have just acquired a budd lounge car made by walthers a few years back (932-6494), and was wondering what color scheme it was i.e. Armour yellow, gray, the color of the heritage fleet, or streamliner coachs? http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/932-6494

The ‘dome’ cars that UP purchased before Amtrak for the ‘Cities’ trains were either ACF or P-S designs. I know that UP has 3 of these cars in the Excursion Fleet - 7001/7006/7115.

If they now have a ‘Budd’ dome coach, it must be an ex-GN/NP/CB&Q/SP&S car they have picked up on the used market. I looked at the current ‘Utah Rails’ listing and do not see it. Maybe it is a ‘foobie’?

Anyway, it would not have been around and operating in the Streamliner fleet before Amtrak.

I believe all of the Budd-style domes (in contrast to the P-S dome done for ATSF) produced in the mid-50s for the cities trains came from ACF’s St Charles, Mo plant. They would also be those we see today in the UP heritage fleet modeled by Walthers.

I am aware of only one paint scheme used for these cars over the years: the yellow and grey with red accents. Same for the MILW, SP, and any other run through cars used in the Cities trains.

With those silver trucks, that would be the Union Pacific passenger car scheme used from about 1959 until 1971 in regular passenger service (until Amtrak). I believe that scheme was maintained for UP’s business cars until about 1984–that’s based on the change back to grey for their diesel trucks. Before 1959, the yellow and grey scheme cars had grey trucks.

The UP Heritage Fleet cars are from the 1990’s onwards. They have silver trucks and are NOT 1950’s period.
