Walthers IS releasing a HO Hiawatha...And Maybe Skytops!

Check out the ad for the 2008 Walthers HO catalog on their website. The cover has a HO Hiawatha Skytop car in the 1952 paint scheme, and Milwaukee’s old Everet Street Station! Is this a dream come true?

No, this not another one of my jokes.

Maybe the 261 is not too far behind?

Phil

I recall my Hiawatha rides from whe nI was young. The super domes and the skytop cars were really great to ride in. Good for Walthers!

Not to be a kill-joy, but I hope not. My wallet is still in shock from last year’s California Zephyrs, and this year’s Empire Builder sets. As much as I’ve wanted a Hiawatha, I can’t afford another yet passenger set next year. They at least waited a little bit of time between the Superchief and the Builder. It allowed me to recover the money supply. If there is a Hiawatha next year it looks like I’ll just miss the train [:(].

Hmmm… I’ve been able to resist the California Zephyr, the Super Chief, the Empire Builder, and the Daylights so far, but I think I’ll have a much harder time resisting a Hiawatha. Something about the paint job, the Super Dome and the Skytop obs…

Everyone should have a Brooks Stevenson Observation car.

It was one of a kind.

Oboy, a HIAWATHA!!!

Seriously, this has been a good several years for passenger trains, hasn’t it? BLI and their CZ, Walthers and their Super Chief, Empire Builder, (and if you care to buy the cars separately, the Rio Grande ROYAL GORGE and PROSPECTOR) now BLI/PCM and Athearn/Genesis both coming out with Daylights (though I’ll bet money on whose actually comes out first, LOL!). And now the Hiawatha. I do seriously hope, since that was such a distinctive train, that Walthers duplicates the beautiful, distinctive Milwaukee styling and just doesn’t put the Hiawatha colors on regular Pullman or Budd cars.

And let us hope that the Hiawatha comes to those who want one in the original Milwaukee colors, not the UP-clone yellow and gray that they later adopted.

NOW—how’s about someone comes up with an affordable “Little Joe” to haul it?

I’d bite, and I don’t even model Milwaukee.

Next up–at least my vote: the 1938 CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO

Tom [}:)]

That’s great news. I haven’t bought any Milw rd stuff since I stopped modeling the Milwaukee. I have all my brass locos and use them for interchange with my Duluth, Superior,& Southeastern. Yes I’ll have to get the HI if it’s in the orange and maroon. I hope that they will bring out ether or both the class A atlantic and the F-7 Baltic. Yes, that’s a 4-6-4. The FM Erie builts with the stainless steel wings on the front would also be great.

Open note to Walthers: DO include Skytops. With interiors - possibly painted? (sold separately). And lights (also separate).

Now I have another cool car to add to the dinner train (see my ‘UP Dome Diner’ thread elsewhere).

A little joe!![(-D] Now that’s a laugh. When pigs fly! I would certainly purchace a few if I hadn’t spent my money on the brass ones… We need to get on BLIs tail!!!

James–

Okay, forget the “Little Joe”, how about one of those Bi-Polars? Now THERE was a virtual Centipede of a loco. Pretty darned handsome, too.

Its offically offical [:D] http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/932-9203. Im still waiting to hear if their gonna make it in the UP sceme [:)] They couldn’t have picked a better month to start relasing the cars. My birthday is in november so Ill definitly have money!

matt

I’d rather have them make the Royale Gorge or the City of Los Angeles, or the City of Denver… or the City of Salt Lake…

I have too many ideas…

That link doesn’t work.

Yes I found that out today, I tried to show my friend it, and now he think I was dreaming [:D] , hopefully it will be up later again.

They were all on the Walthers web site yesterday! It will be a 1955 version of the Twin Cities ‘Hi’ with a Superdome - in the ‘black roof’ scheme. Prices were between $45-$50 per car, with the first release scheduled for Nov 2007. I suspect they messed up and got it on the web site by mistake(maybe waiting for the NTS at the end of the month). It was a nice ‘peek’ as to what is in the works!

Looks like my Christmas list just got created [8)] Now we have to figure-out if the depot on the cover of the catalog is also going to be created.

Walthers is doing a whole rollout of Hiawatha-themed products–from locomotives, to passenger cars, to structures.

Here’s a run-down of what’s coming, with links to images:

[:O] Thanks, Markgro! This is a dream-come-true… I can’t believe they’re doing the depot and train shed, too! Lets hope that after this set comes-out, the CNW “400” and lakefront depot are next! [:P]
