WALTHER'S LIGHTS

At the point of adding street lighting to layout and thinking of using the Walther’s lights. Question is has anyone installed them on thier layout and how easy or hard was it?

I have quite a few of them. I think they look nice, and they’re no problem to install. The lights come with socket bases that you embed in your sidewalk area. The bases have short wire “pigtails” that are connected to your streetlight bus beneath the layout. The lights then plug into the sockets. Walthers even supplies “manhole cover” caps if you want to remove the lamp but leave the socket in place.

I’ve got several different models on my layout, and all the sockets I’ve seen are the same. So, I can swap them around if I want.

The lamps are rated at 16 volts. I run mine at 12 volts, which gives a softer, warmer glow without overpowering the layout with bright points of light. It also greatly extends the life of the bulbs. That’s important, because there doesn’t appear to be any provision for replacing the bulb without replacing the whole lamp unit. The sockets make that easy, of course, but the price does not.

Watch the Walthers monthly flyer for these. Every month, they usually have one or another of the models on sale.

I have used the Walthers lights #933-1082 on my street. They have worked very well. I also use 12 volts for the circuit. One thing that I like very much about them is that since they use a socket the lights can be easily removed if I am working around them. Then I do not have to worry about damaging them.

The socket makes them easy to install or replace. Install or replace only with the power off, the #30 wire pigrtails burn off very fast if a short occurs.

No more difficult than installing trackside signals or crossing signals. If you have done one, you can do the other. Go for it!

I dressed this one up a bit with a Bus Stop sign:

Thank you all I will give it a try.

There a good choice, anything that has either a separate bulb or the socket and pin type configuration. Sure you can buy a dozen of the cheapo model power lights for the price of one of the Walthers or Brawa Modellspeilwaren but when the bulb burns out you have to replace the entire piece not just the bulb.
