Has anyone heard a date when these models will be released? I have one on order at my LHS, but all the owner knew was “sometime soon”.

Have you checked the Walthers web site? When an item is not in stock, they show an estimated date when they will get it. Sometimes that’s “Unknown” and sometimes the date keeps getting pushed later and later, but then there are those items which show up before they are scheduled, too.
The Walthers web site says Jan 29th, 2008 for the rib side cabooses…
