Last year I got a Kato Budd business car and think that it is the best looking car that you can get for the money. I have a fleet of Rivarossi corrugated passenger cars that they made for IHC. The wheels need to be replace after 25 years and many miles on them. So I got a Walthers’ 10-6 car to replace on of the cars. I was not happy with it. If it was not for the inside and wheels of the Walthers car the Rivarossi car still looks good to me and I am just going to buy the wheels for the car and save alot of money

The Kato business car rocks. I wanted the Burlington but the first runsold out before I could get my hands on one. Thank goodness for Kato’s second run. I have the Walthers diner, it will be put oneBay or a gartage sale soon since I am anxiously awaiting the BLI cars.

And here’s another shot at Walthers. The new lightwieght cars are 6 inches (scale of course) too low. Not a problem if you only run Walthers but there’s a noticeable discrepancy if they’re mixed with accurately done cars.

I have the B&O Kato Business car. I havent had it out of the box since I grabbed it at the hobby shop. I know the paint is probably not protoypical but it rocks.
I use the heavy weight set from walthers and find it adequte for the money. I was told the BLI passenger cars might come out eventually but am not sure when.

Not the current ones, but if you go back about fifteen years or so, Rivarossi made four different body styles of corrugated-side cars that IHC imported. These were the so-called “1940s” cars- a coach (RF&P prototype), and observation car (from the Reading Crusader), a lunch-counter grille car (NYC) and a sleeper (an NYC 10-6). If I remember correctly, these were all Budd prototypes, though they applied a UP-style letterboard to all of them and gave all of them full skirting (which only the observation car really had).
These were done quite nicely, and were completely different from the cars that IHC currently (yuck) offers.
The current IHC cars are not made by Rivarossi. However a number of years ago the IHC cars were made by Rivarossi and the line included a set of Budd corregated Stainless Steel cars which IHC listed as thier 1940s set. The cars were, and are, excellent.
The Rivarossi Budd cars are indeed very nice, though they need some weight, different couplers, and better wheels (I shave the brake shoes back and use Kadee 36" wheels on mine) if you want them to operate reliably. An interior or some window shades also helps.
I agree with fmilhaupt on the prototypes of every car but the coach. I could be wrong, but I think it’s actually a model of a pre-World War II NYC Budd coach. The RF&P may have had identical cars, however, or like I said, I could be wrong.

You’re right they’re NYC but they’re close enough to Santa Fe that I’m using three of them on the Scout I’m making up w/ a clear concience.
I just bought an N scale NYC business car from Kato. The hobby shop I bought it from salvaged it when they were flooded last year…and let me have it for less than half-off. I took it apart, cleaned it up…and was amazed at the detailing. I didn’t expect to find a full interior and a tail sign in N scale 
Having owned various brands of passenger cars, the Walthers Budd cars are beauties! As are those beautiful Katos.
I have some of the older Rivorossi cars from the late 80s-early 90s. For their time, they do look nice. I’m upgrading them with interiors, wheels, and lighting kits to run with my Walthers Budd cars. All skirts will be cut off.
The IHC cars were rather dissappointing.

Hmmm, who makes an accurately done car. I’ve been mixing the Walthers with all my others and have not noticed a difference.
