Walthers Passenger Cars

As good as the Walthers passenger cars are it seems like there is always some missing cars.

The new Milwaukee Road cars are great for the HO MILW people out there but as far as I can find out there will be no Pullman cars. With the addition of some Milwaukee Pullmans and a sleeper version of the “Skytop” observation a model of the Olylimpian Hiawatha could be possible.

This was the case with the Empire Builder too. With the addition of a RPO, Dinette-Dorm, Glacier 16-4 Pullman and the Mountain series Obs/Lounge a model of the 1947 Builder would have been possible. Rapido makes the 8-4-4 Pass Pullman to complete the train.

The just released 10-6 Pullman is a real need as this car was used all over. The one mistake is the Union Pacific car. The only 10-6 Pullmans owned by the U.P. were the Budd “Pacific” series cars.

Walthers’ intent was to model the Twin Cities Hi, not the Olymipan, or any others. The Olympian had the sleepers, and the other cars that were unique to that train. The Twin Cities Hi did not.

I agree that it would be really cool if Walthers made a Pullman Skytop. The car was a very cool looking car, and in some cases, better looking than the Milw’s home built Skytops. However, this model seams to be more popular with modelers, who are not die-hard Milwaukee Road modelers; the Cedar Rapids is probably the most recognizable passenger car in the nation, and Walthers is going to produce that car.

Beggers can’t be chosers…
