I am wondering if anyone knows about the walthers reference guides.I have never actually seen one in a store so that I can see what it is.Does it have every item that walthers offers in one catalog, with order numbers and price list?If that is what it is I will probably buy one.Any help would be appreciated.

Happy Thanksgiving John,
The Walters annual Reference Guide has a listing of what the manufacturers are telling Walthers should be available. Walthers usually will try to indicate items that are not always available in blue, or new items in red. They have a decent listing of road names, colors, and prices.
They have a part number coding system that gives their number for the manufacturer(ie. 200 for Woodland Scenics), and an abbreviated version of the manufacturers part number.
There are sample pictures of most of the items. Also, some short information articles about different aspects of modeling.
The index is pretty good, and list by manufacturer and item.
I know several people that only buy one every 5 or 10 years, and others that buy one every year. I’ve bought one every year for the last 10 years, one every 3 to 5 years before that. I can usually find one in a Local Hobby Shop(LHS) for $16 to $18, although the list price in the mid $20 range. They are a good “wish book”.
You can check Walters web site for stock status of any item.
Billba is right. The one I have is the 1998 edition.

I have one from every year since I got back onto model railroading since 1987. They are stacked up on my reference shelf and are well used. Kevin
