i have 4 walthers proto 1000 RSC2s and wondered if they are DCC friendly. Easy to convert over to DCC?
Have you looked inside? I think you will find a nine pin harness. If so, they are plug & play.

Perhaps yours is of this vintage which talks about a 9-pin plug:

If you’re going to get into hard wiring and messing with new lighting, you might consider a sound decoder and 1-2 sugarcube speakers in the long hood. I did a couple of Kato HOs this way and only had to grind off a bit of the longer weight at one end. I can recommend the LokSound Select (or maybe Micro) decoder with the Alco 244 sound file.
If it’s the older one, just scrap that factory board and hard wire a decoder. It is very DCC friendly - the motor is isolated and the wires are extremely obvious, as to which ones are the track pickups and which ones go to the motor. Very easy job - easier than pulling the factory board and cutting those X’s.
