i have one of walthers’ single track truss bridges (933-3185) and was curious to use their double track truss bridge abuments and wing walls with my single track bridge, do i need to make any modifications with my bridge? or can i use the parts with my single track bridge as is?
I think the only difference is the double track bridge abutments are wider than the single. I think the wing walls are the same. If you happen to have double track abutments you should be able to use it with the single track bridge. Otherwise I would just get the single track one
I would suggest putting the bridge on one side or the other of the abutments, rather than in the middle. That way it could represent a former double-track mainline that was single-tracked, with an old double-track bridge having been removed and a new single-track one built in it’s place. Normally when going from double to single track they would just remove one set of tracks, not remove both and rebuild a new line in the middle of the roadbed.
Don’t know about the abutments, but if you’re a modern era modeller you might want to check if the bridge end portals will actually clear a loaded double stack car. Walthers may have changed the way they make this item from the original version (the description says that it wil clear), but a friend of mine had several of these (an earlier version?) and we got a rude surprise with the first stack train.
