you should wait and see what a BLAST FURNACE will go for…average of 200.00

I think your best bet would be to check out greenberg shows that’s where I got mine. I just wish I could find the fairbanks morse switcher they had painted for it not even eBay has that.

i just searched completed auctions and saw one the went for almost 400 dollars… i need to find the electric furnace at a show ASAP

This seems to be a trend with Walthers. They are retiring many of their structures that have large footprints. My guess is they are finding out that few modelers have large enough layouts to accomodate these space hogs. I am fortunate to have the space for them and bought the ones I needed several years ago when my layout was in the planning stages. I’m very glad I did because several have been retired and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some more go that way. I also have three of the Bachmann skyscrapers that also are no longer available. That is why when I see something I want for my layout, I buy it even if I won’t need it for some time. You never know which ones won’t be around tomorrow. I have about 20 kits still in boxes on my shelves but have plans for every one of them.

The increasingly brief retail lifespans of many of the larger and more pricey kits is no accident. The manufacturers are increasingly coming to appreciate that if hobbyists understand that a particular item may not be available for very long and that there will be no re-runs, they’ll buy one or more right away, even if they only have a possibility of needing it somewhere down the road. FSM and many other of the craftman kit manufacturers have been doing this for years to lock in their customer base and maximize sales.

LOL I wish. I paid over $350 for each of mine. And they were open boxes NOT in the best condition. [V] Be wary of sellers who claim, “Sealed new in box” with these things. I got ripped 3 times because of this. Ask for an actual photo of the box with the wrap on it.

There’s a very large following of steel modelers on yahoo groups. Go to groups.yahoo.com and type in “Steel” when doing a group search

Trying to get Walthers to resurect any thing dealing with steel is like pulling teeth from a chicken. I would place your order with Walthers a pray. But I would NOT count on a re-run of these unique (if somewhat incorrect) models.

Trix also discontinued their BOF (town down converter) (Luckily I’m doing open hearth) So grab it while you can!

That furnace went for

$670

nearly 10 times its retail. Are they THAT rare?
