Walthers turntable

I,ve been shopping around for a larger turntable for my 4-8-2s and 4-8-4s.I found a Walthers 130 for 251.00 that comes with dcc.Is this a good deal…L&NTim

If you’re talking about the Walther’s 130 foot turntable with programmable indexing, then yes, it is a good price. Your 4-8-2’s and 4-8-4’s will easily fit this bridge. It doesn’t come with DCC, it’s DCC compatable.

And it’s fun, I have built the 90’ turntable into my engine facility at Westport yard.

They list for $299 so that isn’t a bad price. I’ve got one and it works great and I’ve never had an issue with it. The roundhouse and the turntable take up a lot off space though.

Great! I found it at Wholesale trains .com…L&NTim

Tom your incorrect the new version does come with a DCC decoder and they will be offering a retrofit kit for the older version. Got that right from Randy at Walthers customer svc. At that price it’s a steal I paid a few dollar less for my 130’ non dcc equipped. version a few years a go.

Edit: FYI here is a copy of the email form Walthers if anyone is interested in converting your analog turntable to dcc. It seems a little pricey to me as I’ve seen several articles on how to add a dcc decoder to your existing t/t

Hello:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Walthers does intend to make available a DCC Conversion Kit for the previously released Walthers Built-up DC turntables. This kit is only designed to adapt to Walthers part numbers 933-2840 (Walthers HO-Scale 90’ Built-up Turntable), 933-2829 (Walthers HO-Scale 130’ Built-up Turntable), and 933-2613 (Walthers N-Scale 130’ Built-up Turntable). We expect this to be available mid to late October after the initial release of the DCC turntables.

This kit will not adapt to any of the Walthers turntable kits; such as the 933-3135 and 933-3171 (Walthers HO-Scale 90’ Turntable Kit), 933-3203 (Walthers N-Scale 120’ Turntable Kit), or turntables produced by other manufacturers.

The Conversion Kit will be available for sale through Walthers Product Support from our Parts and Warranty Department.

The kit will include the control box with electronics, the appropriate printed circuit board for the bridge of the turntable, and complete instructions. The price of this conversion kit will be $179.98 plus shipping and handling charges

Only 1 comment on Wholsaletrains.com. Be sure it’s listed as “in stock” not “available”. Available means you may be waiting weeks, or worse, to receive it!!

Yikes, that’s pricey. I was excited to read this until I saw the dollar amount.

My thoughts exactly but on the other hand unless your one of these dcc gurus which i am not some times there is something to be said for a kit that supply you with everything to make the conversion.

Well, for 80.00 more you get the whole kit and caboodle…

I have just ordered the N version of it, can’t wait for it to turn up in October

Cheers,
Bob

Yep your right. It won,t be aviliable till the end of Oct.I have a big hole in my layout now.I downloaded the templete from Walters just to get a head start on the installation. Not sure what to do now.Iv,e priced one at Internet hobbies but it,s about 290.00 and can ship in about 2 weeks…L&NTim.

What exactly do you get for your additional $180 that you don’t without it? I don’t have one, but I assume that you can run trains through the old turntable without trouble if they are DCC equipped. What does adding DCC to the actual turntable do for you?

I would assume you would be able to control the unit with your DCC throttle. I purchased the N scale version a few years ago and it works great. I too asked Walthers about an upgrade kit and received the same response. So let’s see, I spent $300 for the original turntable, and now if I want to upgrade to the DCC version, I have to shell out an additional $180??? That seems like highway robbery to me, especially when you can get the entire turntable with DCC for $350. At least with Digitrax, when you want to upgrade throttles (i.e. tethered to wireless), they only charge you the difference. You are not penalized for buying the unit when it first came out.

Where did you find the Template? I am about to start a HCD layout and it would be really handy about now
