Walthers Valley Cement - Footprint

Hello all

Would someone who has the instructions for this kit please post a scan of the kit footprint. I have room for the overall dimensions approx 40" x 24", but not sure if I will be able to fit the trackwork.

Just wondering also if the kit has been designed so that it can be built in"mirror" ie the silos on the right hand side rather that left side as shown on Walthers catalogue.

Thank you

Bill

Bill,

Maybe you can gleam some info from this site. Paying special attention to the little map, that has a model of facilities on the site with dimensions:

Have Fun!

I don;t think it can be built as a complete mirror, but you can put the silo anywhere on the propety. The whole thing is a little TOO compressed for me, my plan is to have 2 sets of silos and a double bag house, to allow more railroad service - box cars for bagged cement and covered hoppers lining up along the silos for bulk. Maybe inside. The plant I most remember seeing when I was a kid did not have a visible kiln, so I won’t be using that part. They had a set of silos that bulk tank trucks drove in to for filling, that’s why I’m thinking about modifying the silos for the coppers. Or just add the piping and have them line up along the sides of the silos.

From the Walthers 2008 reference book, the overall dimensions are 40-1/2 by 23-1/4 inches.

Looking at the catalog picture from right to left:

The bulk storage building is 13-1/2 by 7-1/4 by 5 inches tall

The kiln building is 6 by 4-3/4 by 7 inches tall

The rotating drum is 11-3/4 inches long

The last building is 8 by 4-1/4 by 6-1/2 inches tall

The silos, not including the conveyor from the last building, are 9 by 7 by 11-1/2 inches tall

The smoke stack is 2-1/2 by 2-1/2 by 17-1/2 inches tall.

I don’t have the kit, but it looks like the key to what you want to do is the last (unidentified) building. This building is not a total rectangle. It has a notch that is at the left rear corner as you look at the picture. This notch is on the opposite wall from where the conveyor comes out to go to the silo. Possibly you could cut a new opening for the conveyor on the back side of this building and use the cut piece to patch the existing opening.

Frank - Thank you for the link, the diagram is there but I can’t read the dimensions.

maxman - Thank you for the dimensions, with the diagram that gives me what I need.

Randy - Appreciate your suggestions, looking at the linksFrank provided shows variations that others have incorporated.

Bill,

Did You happen to catch this one in the link? Dimensions are easier to read.

That one is already built though.

Edit: click on the little map to the right and you’ll get a larger pic.

Does this help you at all?

Trackwork doesn’t look at all realistic - but good idea of dimensions.
